To protect health “just needed” China’s proposed legislation makes up for the “shortcomings” of mental health services and health education talents

The accelerating pace of modern life has made physical and psychological “sub-health” problems more diverse, and seeking professional help has become a healthy “just need.” On the 23rd, the Supreme Legislature submitted the Basic Medical Health and Health Promotion Law’s fourth draft to be replaced by the Supreme Legislature. It is proposed to supplement the “shortcomings” of mental health services and health education from the legislation and legislation and transform society’s growing health services demand.

According to the “Healthy China Action” (2019-2030), generally, the prevalence of mood disorders and anxiety disorders with depression as the mainstay is rising. At the same time, the health literacy level of residents in 2017 was only 14.18%. Urban and rural residents lacked the knowledge and skills to maintain health, such as disease prevention, early detection, emergency rescue, rational use of drugs, and unhealthy lifestyles.

At present, society has a huge demand for mental health services and health science knowledge, but related professionals still have “shortcomings” in terms of quantity and quality. As a result, the primary medical care and health promotion law has increased expenditures and proposed that the country strengthen the construction of mental health service personnel and strengthen health education professionals’ training.

The draft proposes that the state should strengthen the mental health service system and the construction of the talent team. Promote the effective connection of mental health education, psychological evaluation, psychological counseling, and psychological treatment services, establish a psychological intervention hotline to provide public welfare services. Strengthen minors, Mental health services for key groups such as the disabled and the elderly.

The governments at all levels should strengthen health education and the training of professional talents, establish a core information release system for health knowledge and skills, popularize health science knowledge, and provide the public with scientific and accurate health information.
